Research and Branding

Developing a brand identity that spoke to our student user base, as well as differentiating itself from popular alternatives in a more friendly demeanor was important. By the same standards, logo ideation was complex, as over designing it would disengage the targeted audience of 17 to 26.

Most of our user research concluded that while well designed visually, similar applications lacked ease of use and resulted in more stress when seeking out project opportunities or connecting with peers.

Ideation

Initial mockups and wireframes consisted of quick, greyscale layouts with the concluded options and page types. We determined that the platform should rely less on a general social feed, and more on a discover page while forum style discussions can occur amongst users.

Dozens of iterations within each page or process resulted in optimization of user pathways, and an application that lacks unneccesary complication.

Login and Discover

A streamlined login process that ties users to their school email, a requirement to enter their schools ecosystem, presents the user with options for completing their profile to best match them with existing projects and people.

Users are then immediately sent to the discover page with two simple choices, search by projects or people. This allows for quick connections and filtering based on a users intended action.

Projects and Profiles

A projects page presents a select presentation of information including project details, members, open positions, gallery, and the public forum. This provides key information for any involved members as well users seeking to join without confusing interfaces or overly written page interactions. It also provides a cleaner experience on both ends, as the page is relatively indifferent regardless of user involvement on any given project.
